For certain people, soy can cause allergic reactions and modified soy products can cause health issues. However, according to Bon Appetit, soy can help lower cholesterol, control blood sugar and regulates elevated lipids.

According to HowStuffWorks.com, it is a myth that too much soy causes a severe drop in testosterone in men. Realistically, consuming the recommended amount of soy a day may only cause a small testosterone drop in men. While research is ongoing regarding soy, it may help prevent breast cancer in some women. According to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, soy can also help lower the risk of certain cancers, such as colorectal cancer.
