What Are Some Foods and Their Points on the Weight Watchers Food List?

The Weight Watchers food list consists of several food categories and their corresponding point values. Some of these include beans and legumes ranging from zero to four points, breads and crackers ranging from zero to eight points, and types of fish ranging from zero to seven points.

Weight Watchers point values apply to various food categories, including cheese, beverages, cereals, fruit, and fats and oils, among many others.

Cheeses and their respective points include a 1-inch cube of pasteurized, fat-free American cheese with zero points, 1 tablespoon of crumbled bleu cheese with one point, and a 1-inch cube of cheddar cheese with two points.

Beverages are broken down in several categories, such as alcoholic beverages, coffee drinks and juices. A 5-ounce glass of a medium white wine equals two points. An 8-ounce cup of coffee totals zero points, and a 4-ounce glass of unsweetened apple juice accounts for one point.

Many foods have zero point values. Some of these are asparagus, bell peppers, cauliflower, diet soda, and grapes. Other zero-point foods are jalapeño peppers, mixed greens, nectarines, okra and a side salad without dressing.

The original Weight Watchers points system was started in 1997 and revamped in 2011 as the PointsPlus model. The main difference between the two models is that caloric calculations have been taken out of the equation with PointsPlus, which takes into consideration how the body processes nutrients from carbohydrates, fats and fiber.
