How Many Aircraft Carriers Does the U.S. Have?

As of November of 2014, the United States has a total of 10 active aircraft carriers with another two under construction. The oldest aircraft carrier still active is the USS Nimitz, which was commissioned on May 3rd, 1975.

The newest aircraft carrier currently in operation is the USS George H.W. Bush, which was commissioned on January 10th, 2009. The USS Midway is a retired aircraft carrier, now located in San Diego, that serves as a museum and a memorial. The two aircraft carriers that are currently under construction are the PCU Gerald R. Ford and the PCU John F. Kennedy.
