The subcarinal lymph node is located at the top of the esophagus. It is important in the removal and treatment of esophageal cancer because of its location, explains Ma et al. in the Interactive CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery journal.
Directly above the subcarinal lymph node is the bronchus and hilar vessels, states Radiology Assistant. The subcarinal lymph node is named because it is underneath the carina of trachea, which is characterized by the conjunction of the openings of the left and right bronchi with the trachea, claims MediLexicon. Directly below the subcarinal lymph node are the paraesophageal lymph nodes, which are characterized by their location on the midsection of the esophagus and below the carina.
