What Is the Revolution for Mercury?

Mercury’s revolution is 88 Earth days. A planet’s revolution is the time it takes to make one complete orbit around the sun. This is different than Mercury’s rotation period, which is the time it takes this planet to spin about its axis.

Mercury’s rotation period is 59 Earth days. Mercury is an inner planet that is also the closest to the sun. Mercury is a small planet with an equatorial diameter of 4,879 kilometers. Mercury’s gravity is 38 percent that of the Earth’s. Mercury does not have moons associated with it. However, it does have many craters as the result of collisions from asteroids and comets.

Named after the Roman god Mercury, this planet was known to the ancient Assyrians. In 1974 and 1975, the spacecraft Mariner 10 was able to map out a portion of Mercury’s surface.
