How Many Planets Are There in the Universe?

According to NASA, more than 1,700 planets have been confirmed outside of our own solar system. However, the number of planets in the universe could essentially be infinite because scientists have yet to find the so called “edge” of space.

Forbes reports that there may be billions of planets like Earth just in our own galaxy. There are at least 100 billion galaxies in the known universe, each one containing billions upon billions of stars. Each one of those stars could have multiple planets in orbit around them. This means that there are likely many trillions of planets in the universe.
