How Many Grams of Salt Are in a Teaspoon?

There are approximately 4.93 grams of salt in a teaspoon. It is important to understand the difference in gram measurements versus teaspoons measurements, however, particularly when cooking.
Grams are a measure of mass, or how much of something can be accumulated within a dimension of space. Teaspoons are a measure of volume, or the amount of space that something occupies. Grams can be converted to teaspoons because the amount of an item that is of fixed size and shape, such as salt, contained in a gram is constant. It is possible, therefore, to determine how many teaspoons a gram of salt fills by adding the salt to the teaspoon one gram at a time.
