How Many Barrels of Oil Are in a Metric Ton?

In the U.S., there are 7.33 barrels in a metric ton. There are 42 U.S. gallons in a barrel. Oil companies registered on the New York Stock Exchange report their oil production results in thousands of barrels, written as “Mbbl” or millions of barrels, written as “MMbbl.”

The number of barrels per metric ton varies from country to country. In the U.K., there are 7.56 barrels per metric ton, while in Saudi Arabia, there are 7.4 barrels per metric ton. After distillation, the number of barrels per ton can be anywhere between six and eight. Outside of North America, oil companies usually report oil production results in cubic meters.
