What Kind of Test Does a Urologist Perform?

A urologist performs a wide range of tests, with the most common including cystoscopy, kidney biopsy and imaging tests of the urinary tract. This type of doctor is highly trained in disorders of the urinary tract.

A urologist is a specialized surgeon who tests for and treats conditions of the urinary system, from the kidney to the urethra. Cystoscopy is a test that involves placing a camera into the urinary bladder to look for problems. A kidney biopsy is important to determine if the disorder is arising at the level of the kidney. A urologist also performs many treatments, including on the prostate, vasectomies and circumcisions.
