What Are the Types of Earth Movement?
The two types of movement of the Earth are rotation and revolution. Rotation is the spinning of the Earth on an invisible axis. Revolution is the movement of the Earth around the sun.
The Earth takes 24 hours, or a day, to complete one rotation. The axis is an imaginary straight line around which the Earth rotates, and the direction in which the axis tilts determines the seasons. When the Earth’s northern pole tilts toward the sun, the Northern Hemisphere experiences summer weather, while the Southern Hemisphere experiences winter. When the southern axis tilts toward the sun, it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere. One complete revolution takes 365 1/4 days, or one year. Rotation of the Earth results in night and day, while revolution results in the changing seasons.
