A soil boring test are conducted for different reasons, including to determine good drilling locations and depths for wells and basements. The soil boring tests are performed by excavating soil from an area.
After the soil is excavated to a certain depth, it is tested to obtain the characteristics. These characteristics are then used to determine the depth and load rate as specified by state codes. It also provides information on the layers available, such as bedrock, which can limit sewage or well functions. On average, the first 30 to 42 inches are tested when boring soil for wells or sewage systems.
