The scientific name for a rose is Rosa. Roses are a perennial shrub or vine of the Rosa genus and the family Rosaceae. There are more than 100 species of roses, most of which are from Asia.

Roses are ornamental plants grown both indoors and outdoors. They have been cultivated for several millennia, with the earliest accounts dating from 500 BC in China, Persia and Mediterranean countries.
