What Is a Quarter Stick of Dynamite?

A quarter stick of dynamite has an average size of 1 inch in diameter and 6 inches in length. It is made with thick cardboard walls and filled with explosive powder. A quarter stick, which is also called an M-1000, is usually used as a firecracker.

A quarter stick generally contains between 25 and 30 grams of explosive material, so it produces a large explosion that can cause serious bodily damage. The high capacity exceeds the limits for fireworks set forth by the United States government, making quarter sticks of dynamite illegal to transport or use. Most quarter sticks are made and sold by illegal fireworks manufacturers.
