There are a total of 78 organs in the human body, divided into 13 major organ systems and seven regional groups. Of those organs, five are considered vitals organs. They are the heart, brain, lungs, kidneys and liver.
An organ is a structure with at least two kinds of tissues that work together for a particular purpose. In addition to the vital organs, the skin is also an important organ, as it keeps out potentially harmful viruses, bacteria and pathogens. It is the largest organ, spanning approximately 22 square feet and weighing at least 20 pounds, depending on the individual.
