Some countries and regions located entirely within the temperate zone — including those with subtropical temperate climates — are the United States, Canada, Uruguay, all of Europe, Northern Africa, the Middle East, Japan and New Zealand. The majority of the world’s population lives in the temperate zone.
All of the countries located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Arctic Circle, in the northern hemisphere, and between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic Circle, in the southern hemisphere, are generally considered part of the temperate zone. There are several climate distinctions within the temperate zone other than subtropical, such as maritime, arid, semi-arid and continental climates.
