Examples of animals that live in trees are the koala, orangutan, squirrels, birds and spider monkeys. Animals that spend most of their time in trees are called arboreal animals.
Arboreal animals spend a majority of their lives in trees because the trees provide things the animal can’t find on the ground. Trees provide food and protection for thousands of species of animals. Each arboreal animal has certain adaptations to help them survive high off the ground. Sharp claws, powerful tails and loose joints allow these types of animals to move quickly and easily through trees.
Other examples of arboreal animals include the black and green Mamba, most primates, parrots, geckos and tree snails.
