The term for a hurricane in Australia is tropical cyclone or just cyclone. Cyclones that form in the southern hemisphere by Australia rotate clockwise, while those that form north of the equator rotate counter-clockwise.

Cyclones that hit along the Australian coast are most likely to form from April to December and typically develop in the northern Indian Ocean. Tropical storms that form in the western Pacific Ocean are called typhoons and most commonly make landfall in the Philippines, China, Japan and surrounding countries. The term hurricane refers to storms that form in the Atlantic Ocean and northern Pacific Ocean regions.
