What Is the Function of a Centrifuge Tube?
Centrifuge tubes are cylinder-shaped, calibrated glass containers that fit into centrifuge slots for the analysis and separation of various materials. Usually laboratory technicians test solid-liquid or immiscible liquid samples in centrifuge tubes.
Laboratory technicians deposit various substances into the centrifuge tubes and secure them into the centrifuge. A laboratory centrifuge generally has a specific number of slots where laboratory technicians insert the tubes. Most centrifuges have a protective cover that must be in place before starting the rotation cycle. Technicians spin the tubes at proper speeds until the denser particles in each substance gather at the point farthest from the axis and the less dense particles gather at the point closest to the axis.
