What Exactly Is a Firework?
Fireworks are explosive pyrotechnics set off for celebrations of various kinds, producing light, colors, noise and smoke. Fireworks are typically shot into the air by mortars or rockets, allowing many people to see the display.
Fireworks come in many varieties. Roman candles and fountain fireworks shoot out many sparks and stars and can be layered together in multi-shot barrages. Wheel-type fireworks are designed to spin when ignited. Mine fireworks are specifically chosen for the suddenness of their explosion; when released, they shoot high into the sky and explode suddenly with an enormous bang. All these types may be combined together to create an enormous variety of effects. Hand-held fireworks known as sparklers are very small and aren’t propelled into the air, but can still be very dangerous if touched while hot.
