What Is a Dissecting Scissor Used For?

A dissecting scissor is a pair of scissors that is used in a classroom setting for dissections or in medical and surgical settings. The scissors may be made from stainless steel or nickel and come in sharp, semiblunt, angled or straight-blade options.

Dissecting scissors have several uses in the operating room when used by medical professionals. They aid in making incisions, removing skin and flaps of tissue, and removing stitches. They have specialized structures for specific procedures, such as curved blades to protect an incision during probing. Dissecting scissors are often more useful than scalpels because they provide more mechanical leverage.
