What Is the Density of Aluminum 6061?

In measurements of the imperial system, aluminum 6061 has a density of 0.098 pounds per cubic inch. In metric measurements, this amounts to 2.7 grams per cubic centimeter.

Aluminum 6061 is an alloy of aluminum blended with magnesium and silicon. It was introduced in 1935 as a way to solve the need for medium-strength products that were heat-treatable. Its moderate strength and easy fabrication made it possible for the alloy to replace steel in certain market sectors, unlike the harder aluminum-copper alloy, which was more difficult to produce and mold. Since the advent of Aluminum 6082 in 1963, the use of aluminum 6061 has decreased.
