What Is the Average Temperature of Earth at Night?

The average surface temperature of the Earth, day or night, is between 57.2 and 61 degrees Fahrenheit. This is relatively moderate compared to other celestial bodies in the Solar System, due to the Earth’s position and atmosphere, which retains solar heat.

The habitable nature of the Earth is a result of receiving a moderate amount of solar radiation. Despite this, the temperature range of the planet is from 128.6 below zero to 136.4 degrees. The average surface temperature on Mars is 80 degrees below zero, in large part due to the tenuous atmosphere of the planet. Venus, at the other extreme, has an extremely thick atmosphere with an average surface temperature of more than 750 degrees.
