The Xerus inauris are black squirrels with short, coarse hair and a white tail that extends the length of their body. They are diurnal animals, coming out of their burrows during the day to forage, groom and socialize. They prefer to live in dry areas, such as grasslands, deserts and savannah and will use their large tails for shade. The primary diet of the Xerus inauris consists of seeds, nuts, insects, leaves and grains.
