Some facts for kids about the Titanic include that it took the ship two hours and 40 minutes to sink after hitting the iceberg, and three dogs left the Titanic on a lifeboat with their owners. Another fact includes that the band played for hours while the ship sank.

Six forward compartments filled with water on the Titanic after hitting the iceberg. The ship would not have sunk if it had only been four forward compartments. The ship had four funnels, but only three of them were functional. Designers added the fourth funnel to give the ship a more symmetrical look. The 30 ship engineers kept working until the ship sank to save others, and none survived.

It cost more to make the 1997 movie, “Titanic,” than it did to build the actual ship. After the sinking, it took 73 years to find the wreck on the ocean floor. The first movie detailing the sinking of Titanic made its debut 29 days after the ship sank, and one of the actresses was a survivor of the disaster. White Star Line billed the family members of the band members for the cost of their uniforms lost in the sinking. As the Titanic sank, Ben Guggenheim dressed in his best suit, smoked a cigar and enjoyed a glass of brandy.
