He served as vice president to President Ronald Reagan for two terms before beating his Democratic competitor, Michael Dukakis, in 1988 to secure the presidency. He ran for re-election in 1992 but lost to Bill Clinton. George W. Bush was born in 1946, was elected president in the year 2000 and served two terms in office.
