Who Were General George Patton’s Children?
General George Patton had three children with wife Beatrice Banning Ayer: Beatrice Smith, Ruth Ellen and George Patton IV. His son reached the rank of Major General in the U.S. Army. General George Patton is remembered as the general who led the Third U.S. Army’s successful European campaign during World War II.
George Patton was born on November 11, 1885. He attended Virginia Military Institute, and then transferred to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated in 1909. On D-Day in 1944 he was given command of the Third U.S. Army by President Franklin Roosevelt. Patton led his army across France and Germany, helping both countries become liberated from Nazi control. Patton died on December 21, 1945 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Germany. His son George would later serve three tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
