An American flag with 48 stars will be worth approximately $40 to $60, as of 2014, depending on the condition of the flag. The 48-star flag is significantly more common than other variations.
The 13-star American flag is the only flag variation more common than the 48-star version. Other versions of the flag include one with 49 stars and the 43-star version that was used less often than the unofficial 42-star flag, due to the sudden admission of Idaho into the Union. Civil War era flags with 34, 35 or 36 stars are relatively rare, while the rarest are those which do not fit into any of these categories, so long as they were official at one point.
