The Equator crosses the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans. It does not cross the Arctic and Southern oceans. The Southern Ocean is also known as the Antarctic Ocean.
The Equator is an invisible line that divides the sphere of the Earth into a Southern Hemisphere and a Northern Hemisphere. It is equally distant from the North Pole and the South Pole. The Equator is just under 25,000 miles long, with more than 78 percent crossing water. Other planets also have equators.
Latitude of the Earth’s equator is zero degrees. The Equator is one of the Earth’s five major circles of latitude; the others are the two Arctic Circles and the two Polar Circles.
