What Are Some Northeast Region Landmarks?
Some landmarks in the northeastern region of the United States include New York’s Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge and Times Square; Pennsylvania’s Liberty Bell and Independence Hall; and Massachusetts’ Freedom Trail. Other prominent structures include Washington D.C.’s Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Capitol Building and the White House.
The Northeast comprises 11 states: Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. This region also contains the country’s capital district, which is home to the federal government buildings.
The Statue of Liberty is perhaps the most iconic landmark in the Empire State. Visitors can book excursions through various tour companies that offer cruises to this famed tourist attraction, located on Liberty Island in the New York Harbor.
The Empire State Building is another renowned sightseeing spot in New York City where the queues leading up to the top deck can be very long. The Brooklyn Bridge, which is designated as a National Historic Landmark, is famous to both foreigners and locals alike, with 150,000 people traveling across this bridge on a daily basis. Times Square is a major commercial hub in New York City, well known for its Broadway theaters, restaurants, electronic billboards and shopping districts.
Independence Hall in Philadelphia is noted for its historical value. This marks the site where the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence took place. Boston, which is home to the country’s earliest underground railway system, public park, school and library, also contains the historical Freedom Trail.
