Most French people consider football (known as soccer in the United States) their national sport. Others refer to tennis and cycling as the national sports of France, according to a Times of India article.

The French football team earned the 1998 World Cup. With nearly two-thirds of French men and one-third of French women active in at least one sport, France is considered one of the most sports-minded nations in the world, according to the Times of India. The country is also host to a number of well-known international sporting events, including the Tour de France bicycle race and the French Open tennis tournament.
