Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made a huge impact on both national and international society in terms of the Civil Rights Movement. Although there were others before him who fought for civil rights, their impact was not as significant as King’s.
Like his grandfather and father before him, King was also a Baptist pastor. His fight for civil rights began with the “Montgomery Bus Boycott” in 1955. He was active in the Civil Rights Movement until his assassination in 1968. King and other civil rights leaders marched to Washington, D.C., reaching the national’s capital on August 28, 1963. The march and King’s “I Have a Dream” speech was televised worldwide.
