How Much Electricity Does Las Vegas Use Per Day?
According to Forbes magazine, Las Vegas uses 5,600 megawatts of electricity on a summer day. This usage is expected to hit 8,000 megawatts by 2015. Furthermore, each new resident will need 20,000 KWh of electricity every year.
In 2014, the residential electricity consumption in Nevada averaged 935 KWh a month and was 3.54 percent more than the national average of 903 kWh a month. Likewise, the average monthly electricity bill was 3.74 percent greater than the national average of $107. The average monthly industrial power consumption was 305,373 kWh, which is 172.27 percent more than the national monthly average of 112,158 kWh. The average industrial electricity bill in one month is $19,800, which is No. 12 in the national ranking and is 164.6 percent greater than the national average of $7,483.
Casinos in Las Vegas consume the most power. Casinos constantly add more gaming machines, and their expansions increase the need for power even more. Apart from the hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, industries and residential households also play a substantial role in the augmented power consumption.
In order to meet the electricity requirements of Las Vegas, a $5 billion project is being planned out. Las Vegas consumes 15 percent of the electricity generated by the Hoover Dam. However even this is predicted to be insufficient to meet the needs of the future.
