What Was Marco Polo’s Education?

Marco Polo was educated by his aunt. He was born in 1254 in Venice, Italy, to a family of merchants. His father was away while when he was born, and his mother died while he was young, so he was raised and educated by his extended family.

When his father and uncle made a second trip to China in 1271, Marco went with them. He experienced cultures and learned skills from his father and uncle during the 23-year trip. He wrote a book about his travels, called “The Travels of Marco Polo.” This book inspired adventurers throughout history, including Christopher Columbus.
