In the town of Tromsø, north Norway, the sun shines 24/7 at high summer and not at all in mid-winter, while in Stavanger in the south, it is daylight for about 545 hours in June and around 194 hours in December. Daylight hours in Norway vary greatly according to the season and location.
Oslo, the capital city of Norway, situated in the southeast of the country, has 240 hours of actual sunshine (as opposed to daylight hours) in June and 30 hours in December.
Northern Norway is located in the Land of the Midnight Sun and experiences about four months of continuous daylight. However, some of those hours are more like twilight than bright sunshine. During winter, the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, occur, and the sky is sometimes filled with green, red, yellow and blue light.
