During his lifetime, Christopher Columbus became the father of two sons, born from different mothers. His first son, Diego, was born in 1480 and his second son, Fernando, was born in 1488. Both sons were born prior to his first voyage towards the Indies.

Columbus’ first son Diego lived from 1480 to 1526. He was the only child born to Christopher Columbus from his marriage to Doña Felipa Perestrello y Moniz, who passed away in 1484. After the death of Columbus, Diego inherited the title of Admiral of the Indies. Fernando, the second son of Columbus, was born out of wedlock in 1488 and lived until 1539. Fernando accompanied Christopher Columbus on his fourth voyage to the Indies in 1502.
