Major landforms in Kentucky include the Appalachian Plateau, the Interior Low Plateaus and the Coastal Plain. The Appalachian Plateau is also known as the Cumberland Plateau and is located in the east of Kentucky.
Other landforms in Kentucky include the north-central Bluegrass Region and the Western Coal Fields, which borders the Ohio River. Also in Kentucky is the Mississippi River flood plain, which is also called the Jackson Purchase, referring to the 1818 land purchase from the Chickasaw Indians. The Kentucky Bend is located by the Mississippi, and the Land Between the Lakes covers the area between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake.
