As of 2010, the city of Chicago has an area of 227.63 square miles, including 26 miles of lakefront land and 15 miles of beaches. Chicago has a population of 2,695,598 people, or 11,841.8 persons per square mile, making it the third largest city in the United States.
The Chicagoland metropolitan area, the 22nd largest metropolitan area in the country, includes nearly ten million people throughout three states: Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana.
