What Kinds of Food Did the Jumano Indians Eat?

Foods that Jumano Indians ate included corn, beans and dried squash. They also supplied their foods to other villages in exchange for meat, cactus fruits, pine nuts and pelts.

The Jumano people were both farmers and buffalo hunters who were known to wear tattoos. Farming was their main source of food. Most of the farming work was done by women while men went hunting for meat. They practiced pottery to store seeds and food. Cooking was done by throwing hot stones into the gourds. Jumanos Indians were comprised of three distinct groups living in different areas. Their central areas were New Mexico, Texas and northern Mexico.
