While Hawaii does not have an official state animal, the state mammal, named in 2008, is the monk seal. The state’s marine mammal is the humpback whale, and the state bird is the Hawaiian goose.
Hawaii’s state fish is the Humuhumunukunuku apua’a, or reef triggerfish. The state flower is the hibiscus, and the state tree is the Kukui, or candlenut. Seven of the state’s largest islands also have an official island flower. Hawaii’s nickname is The Aloha State, and the state gemstone is the black coral. Honolulu is the state’s capital and largest city, and the state encompasses 10,932 square miles.
