Leonardo da Vinci did not cut off his ear. However, Vincent van Gogh, another famous painter, cut off part of his own ear.
Leonardo da Vinci was the child of Ser Piero and a peasant girl. He was born on April 15, 1452, and went on to be one of the most famous artists in history despite the fact that his right hand was paralyzed.
Vincent van Gogh had a nervous and difficult personality even as a child. He suffered from depression and, his art work was always dark and melancholy. In 1888, suffering from a severe bout of depression, van Gogh cut off part of his left ear with a razor blade. He went on to document the event with the painting “Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear.”
