Where Did Archimedes Go to School?
Archimedes went to school at the Royal Library of Alexandria in Egypt under the guidance of former students of the mathematician Euclid. He continued studying mathematics, physics, astronomy and military techniques after returning to his native city in Syracuse, Sicily.
Although little is known of the life of Archimedes, his mathematical and scientific discoveries remain in use in modern times. The Archimedes screw, a pump for raising water from one level to another, bears his name. Archimedes experimented with and recorded many details about how pulleys, levers, fulcrums and screws work, which led to the development of the branch of physics known as mechanics. He also developed many weapons for warfare based on the mechanics of simple machines.
