The country with the most rivers is Bangladesh, with around 700 rivers. The country is called “the land of the rivers” because of its extensive network of five river systems.

The rivers in Bangladesh generally flow south and are widely used natural resources for fishing, irrigation and hydroelectric power. They are also a main source of transportation for fishing boats and commercial tourism. Bangladesh is heavily affected by the monsoon season, and flooding causes great hardship to local farmers. After the rains, fresh silt deposits replenish the overworked soil. The river system also carries excess water into the Bay of Bengal.
