What Countries Make up the Orient?

Countries within the Orient include nations in primarily eastern Asia, including China, Tibet, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Mongolia and Taiwan. Although classified as Asian nations, these countries vary widely in terms of politics, geography and demographics. Some Oriental countries, including Hong Kong and Tibet, fall under the control of China.

The continent of Asia covers the largest amount of land of all seven continents. In addition to having the largest land area, Asia contains the highest population of all continents. Asia connects to Africa via the Isthmus of Suez. Physically, it joins the European continent through the Ural Mountains and Caspian Sea.

Asia contains other countries besides those in the east. Other Asian nations include Singapore, India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. These countries form the south-central area of Asia, while Russia lies farther north.

Southeast Asia contains Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Western Asia, which borders the Middle East, includes Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan and Kuwait. The populations of the Asian nations vary, but seven out of the 10 most populous countries of the world, including China, are in Asia.
