E-ZPass is an electronic highway toll paying system that enables drivers to pass through toll plazas without stopping or having to search for money for the tolls. E-ZPass is accepted in 15 states, which are mostly located along the east coast. Drivers can complete applications for the E-ZPass either online or by mailing forms to the E-ZPass agency.
Service users must maintain a pre-paid balance on their accounts. When drivers pass through the toll plaza, their tag is scanned electronically and their pre-paid account is debited at the toll rate.
