How Can You Find Driving Directions That Use Back Roads?
To find driving directions that use back roads, enter start and end addresses on MapQuest’s Route Planner, and check Highways and Tolls under Avoid The Following. Alternatively, enter the destination in Google Maps’ search box, click Directions, enter a starting address, click Options, and click Avoid Highways and Tolls.
MapQuest’s Route Planner allows you to add stops along the route. This can ensure the route travels along back roads rather than following the most direct route. To add stops to MapQuest, click Add Another Stop under the address search boxes.
Google Maps also allows you to amend a suggested route by clicking and grabbing a point on the route highlighted on the map and moving the route to travel along back roads. Revised driving directions appear in the panel along with an amended trip time and mileage.
