Where in Alaska Is the Kilcher Family Homestead Located?
The Kilcher Family Homestead is located just outside the town of Homer, Alaska. Homer rests near Kachemak Bay on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula in the south-central region of the state.
The Homestead dates back to the 1940s, when Alaska granted Yule Kilcher and his family 160 acres to homestead. The family earned fame long before the Discovery reality TV series “Alaska: The Last Frontier” profiled their lives. Yule made “A Pioneer Family in Alaska” during the 1950, and it’s the first known documentary of life on a homestead. A living museum on the now 600-acre homestead provides tourists with a behind-the-scenes look at life at Kilcher Family Homestead, while Seaside Farms offers visitors overnight cabin, campsite and youth hostel accommodations.
