Six countries in Central America have Spanish as their official language: Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. While Belize does have a Spanish-speaking population, its official language is English, making it the only country in Central America without Spanish as the official language.
Central America is an isthmus in North America that connects the continent to South America. It is bordered by Mexico to the north and Colombia to the south. The Caribbean Sea borders Central America to the east and the Pacific Ocean borders it to the west. In addition to Spanish and English, other languages spoken in Central American include Mayan, Quiche, Xinca, Garifuna and other Amerindian languages.
