The New Mexico state motto is “Crescit eundo,” a Latin phrase which translates as “It grows as it goes.” New Mexico’s statehood was granted in 1912, making it the 47th state. New Mexico is referred to as the Land of Enchantment.
New Mexico’s largest city is Albuquerque and its capital is Santa Fe. New Mexico has a total area of 121,412 square miles. It is bordered by the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Arizona and Colorado. The climate of New Mexico ranges from semi-arid to arid. The state receives little precipitation, with an average total of under 14 inches a year.
