The city of Carrollton, Texas, is in the counties of Denton, Dallas and Collin. Approximately 50 percent of the city limits are within Dallas County, while the remaining half is split evenly between Denton and Collin. Carrollton has an area of 37.1 square miles.
The city is a suburb of Dallas with a population of 119,097 as of 2010. It was founded in the mid-19th century by English farmers from Illinois. The city was officially incorporated in 1913. It grew significantly as a spill-over from Dallas during the latter half of the 20th century. The 1970s alone saw a 193 percent rise in population.
