Canada is not a state but rather a country that borders the United States; it has 10 provinces and three territories that are like states. The country is a parliamentary democracy, a federation and a constitutional monarchy. Canada has executive, legislative and judicial branches.
The United States and Canada often work closely together in business and investment. In 2014, the two nations have the world's most expansive trading relationship and share an electricity grid. Both countries also work together to fight terrorism and money crimes. English and French are official languages in Canada, with about 59 percent of Canadians primarily speaking English and 22 percent speaking French.
